Spoiled Brat, That’s Me

Spoiled brat…that’s what I am.  Not bragging about it, just humbly confessing that is what I am.

This epiphany came to me one morning whilst God and I were chatting and the first light of a new day eased into my room.  I was expressing my endless gratitude for the delights in my life at His hand…a restful, safe night’s rest in my comfortable bed, savoring a hot cup of coffee saturated with sugar and cream, admiring and giving thanks for the splendor of His creation as the sun rose and the fluffy clouds gathered, being serenaded by the birds, recalling all the unmerited blessings that had been graciously bestowed upon me….when unexpectedly I was overcome with my epiphany.  In this same tête-à-tête, I also began to recall and seek forgiveness for the endless infractions that I had made, the numerous omissions still left undone, the damages that I had inflicted on my fellow brethren and family members and other such injuries too long to list when it hit me…. I’m a spoiled brat!

Even with the daily skullduggery that I allow, my God still profusely covers me with His blessings, joys and delights, and best of all, forgiveness!!  This epiphany left me overwhelmed, with tears of joy streaming down my face, breathless, and my heart flooded with humbled thanksgiving. While such love is difficult for me to properly express, the Psalms express my humility beautifully…

God’s love is meteoric, his loyalty astronomic, His purpose titanic, his verdicts oceanic. Yet in his largeness nothing gets lost; not a man, not a mouse, slips through the cracks. How exquisite your love, O God! How eager we are to run under your wings, to eat our fill at the banquet you spread as you fill our tankards with Eden spring water. You’re a fountain of cascading light, and you open our eyes to light.  Psalm 36:5-6-7-9 MSG

Spoiled brat, that’s me….thanks be to God.
